i hear voices (duh)

One of the voices in my head is that old dude from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. You know, the gazillion-year-old knight guarding the Holy Grail, who, when the bad Nazi guy takes a drink from the wrong cup and right before his face melts off says something very helpful like, "He chose... poorly."

Which is exactly what I hear when I'm in the middle of one of lifes D'oh! moments. Wrong check-out line at the grocery store. Wrong career path. Wrong route home from work. That totally unnecessary second breakfast (with bacon!) that I ate this morning. Whatever.

"You chose... poorly."

Yeah, thanks, old dude. Thanks a lot.

i love that guy! although, if i'm not mistaken, the line was actually delivered AFTER the nazi's face melted off... i think everybody in that little cave could have guessed it was the wrong cup at that point. but good looking out, old guy.

"Good looking out, old guy."

That just made me snort coffee! Awesome.

HJ said:

That's fantastic! I use that line on my friends all the time! We particularly like it when someone makes a questionble dating and/or making out decision. As in, "Really? She's dating him? She chose...poorly."

This Fish said:

Oh, HJ. We could be friends. Also, I had to revise the post to include that super-necessary ellipsis.

I totally had the 'He chose... poorly' conversation in a meeting yesterday, how bizarre. A coworker said Indiana Jones and I thought The Golden Child for some reason. Guess coworker was right!

Just commenting to let you know, I have been obsessively reading your archives for a few weeks while at work and we have the same family thing going on! I have one older brother and three younger sisters and it's the greatest thing ever. All of your family stories make me want to call my siblings immediately and scheme up an event!

How glad are you that it's cool old Indiana Jones' guy's voice and not like Gilbert Gottfried's?

I often hear voices from movies in my head whenever I do something dumb in my life. I'm glad I'm in good company.

A woman that quotes Indiana Jones and from previous posts, Star Wars...where have you been all my life. Marry Me!

Lola said:

Yes the old Guy! I choose poorly so often he just gave up saying anything, just shakes his head as if he is not even surprised anymore.

But I usually have 3 movies who's lines run in my head during the day.

Grease (Because somedays you want to be a bad girl like Riz, A good girl like Sandy or a flirt like Marty)

Bridget Jones Diary ( Because we all have our Daniel Cleavers)

A Bronx Tale (Because every girl should have a little gangsta in her, oh and know what it is to be a "Good One")

Bacon is never the poor choice.

Oh my gosh, that is too funny. I've had the you chose... poorly in my head for years now whenever driving in traffic. If I hit traffic on my way into work, I've chosen poorly. However, if I took the route without traffic I've chosen wisely. I live in Maryland, so I'm usually a poor chooser.

Mui said:

Have I told you lately that I think you're damn funny? :D love that old dude ;)

jamie said:

Lola, I think you mean "one of the great ones" and because this little box doesn't even begin to constitute enough space to discuss it, I'm just going to assume you meant to write "gangster".

CaliGal said:

Don't be so hard on yourself, girlfriend! (And pass the bacon, please!)

LizNY said:

I actually had two entire DINNERS last night -- in front of my male coworkers, who all somehow made do with just one. Two breakfasts seems pretty reasonable, considering. ;)

Jamie:

You are right I did mean one of the great ones,

and yes Gangster, but I was quoting a friend who always says "Gangsta" I just left of the ""

I choose poorly very often. I mean. very often. Sort of like last night when I ate a cookie, a brownie and three martinis?

Ha ha! You and I seem to be on the same page today. I just blogged about one of my dating misadventures, that was a "He chose....poorly" moment. Very funny!

Mutemonkey said:

Very very funny post... I hear that 800 year old Knight in my head too. :)

s said:

I totally have that guy, too!

My friends are constantly accusing me of being the same person as you and now I'm totally freaked out because I do the same thing with the "You chose poorly"...though sometimes it is said out loud. As this is completely random, I think I might have to face that fact that the Dear Fish and I might share a brain.

At the risk of being repetitious... Mmm, bacon.

Re: Chelsea Talks Smack

Okay ... I just don't see what's wrong with that ... maybe it's me.

And then they made the old guy do those terrible Diet Coke commercials! Ah, 1989 ..... a simpler time.

My friend Kara used to always say it would be awesome if that happened to the guy who rejects you. "He chose..poorly." Hang in there, Fish.
