thai food is for lovers

We'd already gone over three different menus to find the perfect Valentine’s Day dinner. Coconut rice, massaman curry and pad thai. My two funny valentines and I knew exactly what we wanted and damn, it, I would press redial over and over until the restaurant answered.

Our minds were made up. It was the day of love and we were having Thai. Along with everyone else on the Upper East Side, apparently.

“She says it’s an hour wait.”

“What? That’s insane!”

“Forget that. We’ll order pizza.”

Okay, so it was the day of love and we were having pizza.

I’d had big expectations about our Valentine’s Day celebration. I know it’s fashionable to snub Valentine’s Day. I don’t care who created it and for what reason, I like it. A lot. And really, what better reason is there to turn what would have been a regular Tuesday night into a tribute to love, excessive caloric intake and Christian Slater?

And so, even with the Thai food let-down, we were still well on our way to proving that even the un-coupled can really love the love day. By seven thirty, candles were flickering around my apartment, Diet Coke was chilling in the fridge. By eight thirty, pizza was on its way. And by ten thirty, the living room was nice and hazy, we’d gotten very giggly and had eaten a helluva lot of chocolate chip cookies.

All in the name of love.

If you’re wondering how Christian Slater fits into the evening, our movie of choice last night was Heathers. What? Not romantic? Suuure it is. You know, in that, My-boyfriend-is-a-psycho-and-still-so-hot kinda way. It was perfect.

And my Valentines Day? It was so very.

Very cool. I wrote about liking Valentine's Day, too. Nothin' wrong with loving love.

It's nice to hear from someone who's "un-coupled" that isn't bitter about Valentine's Day. I also buy into the whole love thing. Single or attached, I think it's a wonderful excuse to eat strawberries, chocolate and just have a wonderful...just cause you're not in a relationship doesn't mean you're not loved.

Sounds like a lot of fun, Fish. Heathers is an awesome movie...

I celebrated Valentine's Day a day late with my Girl Scout troop--we decorated glass votive holders and ate cupcakes that my Mom baked with homemade buttercream frosting. The girls gave me flowers...it was very touching.

Happy Valentine's day, Fish! I'll eat a few candy conversation hearts for you!

Now if Anderson Cooper wants to send me a belated Valentine, I won't complain...he's very....hot.

heathers is good. one of my favorite movies ever stars slater: true romance. also, kuffs was a good slater flick, too.

Heathers would be very appropriate, wouldn't it? ;-)

my girlfriends and i celebrated our annual (as you call it uncoupled) valentine's dinner in the LES -- this time at boca chica. i'm all about having dinner and spreading the platonic love!

i love christian slater, i love heathers, but this is an aside....i saw him on the street the day after he had been arrested for fondling that woman...last year? made me look at him slightly askance....

Doesn't Anderson Cooper like boys? I mean, not to ruin any fantasies or anything. But I think that's more than a rumor.

Thank you fish for showing that single people need love and need to be appreciated too! I also love Valentine's day even though I am couple challenged! My girl friends and I love to just hang out and get manicures and pamper ourselves. Afterall, men come and go but best friends are forever!

Yes, I do believe Cooper likes boys.

your writing style is elegant and beautiful... i love reading your blog.

"Heathers" is such a romantic movie! i especially love the cigarette scene...

lighting your cigarette from your girlfriends oozing burn must be love! definately check out True Romance for more fantastic romance. The screenplay is Tarantino to boot!

take care, fish - and happy blogging =)

Heather- of course you love the movie "Heathers". After all, I would love any movie that was named "Greggs".

I am glad you had a great Valentines evening. Thai food is such a great choice for the day of love. Of course we opted for Indian.

P.S. I also heard that A.C. likes boys. At least he didn't deny it when ask point blank. Too bad cuz so many women I know think he's a cutie. I of course like girls, but unfortunately I am already taken :-)

Are you kidding me? He likes boys? That breaks my heart, he is too cute. Now if you tell me that Jim Cantore from the Weather Channel also likes boys, I'm giving up.

I thought you were going to say you watched "Gleaming the Cube." 'Cause that movie's all about love. Love of skateboarding, baby!

It sounds like a wonderful day. I get tired of all the cynicism--I send my nieces Valentines, and my mother flowers and chocolates every year, and my brother something silly and more chocolate, and I bring in homemade truffles for people at work, which puts everyone in a good mood. And my sister took time to sit down with her kids and make valentines out of construction paper for all their classmates, and they had a wonderful time together, which is a kind of love too. I think of Valentine's Day as a day to celebrate love of all sorts.

That was the bestest ever - you are officially my holidays date.

And whatever else may happen, I know you'd never thank me in puke. Esp at a Remington party.

Love you.

I realized today that many many of my favorite blogs are by Heathers. Then this post about Heathers... Then I thought hard about it and I've never met a Heather that wasn't truly amazing, unique, or really talented. I've never met you - but from what I know of your blog, it's true!

Hmmmm, "hazy" "giggly" "cookies"? Should we read between the lines? What was really in those cookies? ;-)
My favourite ever Valentine's Day was spent with a group of my girlfriends. So much fun!
