feels like four
When I got up this morning weather.com was so kind to offer that it ‘feels like 4 degrees.’ Yes, of course it does. Why not? And when I went to take a shower and the water stayed ice cold after ten minutes, I thought, how very fitting.
Winter in New York City is one high-maintenance little bitch.
She’s like that girl you’re friends with, but you’re not sure why, because not only does she require just way too much attention, she takes three hours to get ready to do anything. See, Summer… now, she’s more my type. Wet hair, flip flops and some lip gloss and she’s good to go. Summer sleeps with one leg out of the covers and doesn’t mind too much if there’s no hot water for her shower.
Not winter. Winter still sleeps with one leg out of the covers, but that one leg is wearing wool socks, and lathered in smelly lotions so her skin doesn’t crack. Winter requires blow dryers and lip products and special weather protecting creams. Winter spends way more time dressing – she doesn’t leave the house with less than three layers. Five, probably, when it feels like four degrees. She requires accessories and particular shoes and coffee and hearty foods. She’ll crack your lip just for smiling at her, too. Insecure little ice princess that she is.
I for one am done. I’m sitting in bed (leaving soon, I swear) in knee-high socks and a heavy bathrobe trying to summon the energy to face winter today. I’d so much rather be off with her red-headed step brother, Caribbean Vacation.
God, was he good.
Winter in Michigan is the same cold hearted little bitch, but worse. I mean, I'm in Michigan for God's sake. Not even the luster of Broadway, and Wall Street and all the excitement that must be New York to take some of the chill out of that air. Just a piss poor football team, flannel sheets, and the dreams of July only 7 blessed months away.
God, I couldn't agree more! Why, why, why is it 17 degrees in NYC today? That's insane.
I, for one, am most fond of Spring. She sleeps with one bare leg outside the covers, just itching to jump up and get outside, see the sunshine and the blossoms, and feel the air getting warmer.
It's better than evil cousin winter in Boston and you know it. It feels like -4 up there and it expects you to cheer for the Pats.
Thats why I moved home after 2 years in Tallahassee, Fl. It would be so cold in the mornings that I would not even consider going to class. Miami is more my speed!
But definately nothing compared to -4 degrees!
I'm with Tanya and am curious to know whether you think it's worse than Boston? That wind!!
Sounds like that old claymation Christmas movieâ¦you know, the one with the ice-miser and the heat-miser and their mother is Mother Nature?
I prefer spring...springâs mild and it smells nice. Iâm not an extreme kind of girl.
Here's to the Caribbean Redhead...may he not be gone long, and when he returns may it be worth the wait!

I miss Summer so very much right now. In fact, I have such a love for my flip flops that I've considered actually wearing them around the house- with the wool socks, of course!
My shower had hot water. You can always come over and get all steamy and lathered up at my place.
Or you could use the shower if you want.

I travel with so many dry skin lotions, it's ridiculous, and keeping up with my keycard, hats, mittens, keys, etc is about to drive me nutty. Great post.
No way...summer needs to die a slow painful death to be punished for the bad hair days, sunburns, bathing suits, and lack of comfortable shoes for work (non flip flops, I DO love flip flops). Layers are much more fun! I enjoy getting to wear more of my clothes and scarves! I LOVE SCARVES!
it's actually 25° here in central montana, unfortunately we have 3 feet of snow right now and all the roads are closed. of course, i didn't know the roads were closed until i drove the 2 miles to work and found out i could have stayed home. oh well.
Well, i agree..Summer is way more fun. Luckily i live in New Zealand :D

Try -30, Fish. I live in NW Alaska. Forget five layers. Just put on some snow pants and a heavy coat and make a run for it! Function must override fashion when Ms. Winter comes to town.
How do you DO that? I would shatter if I went outside in -30!

I am on the search for Spring. She stops in for a few days here and there, but then Winter & Summer fight for our attention when she's gone.
I thought I might, too. This is my first year here and I hail from the sunny state of Florida. Surprisingly, though, my body has adapted quickly. It's not that hard being an Eskimo. :)

at least you all can tell the difference between your seasons. where i am it rains all the time. I itch for sun, and 4 degrees
